Some users have reported encountering the “COM Surrogate has stopped working” error on their Windows 10 PC when they try to print or search for folders containing media files (videos / images). Substitute com is another name for the dllhost.exe process and don't worry as there is a workaround for this error.
Method 1: Add dllhost.exe to the data execution prevention exception
1. Press Windows key + R key. together to open RUN.
2. Now write sysdm.cpl in the text field and click ok.
3. Click Advanced Tongue.
6 - Now, click on settings in the performance section.
7 - Select data execution prevention Language
8 - Now, Enable DEP for all programs and services except selected ones:
9 - Then click Insert.
Now the next step is different for the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
To check if you have 32 or 64 bits, do it.
- print Windows key and R key. together.
- to write msinfo32 and hit enter.
- Now, System type it will tell you that it is a 32 or 64 bit PC
Step 10: -
Case 1 - If your windows PC is 64 bit.
Search for C: Windows SysWOW64 dllhost.exe
Case 2: If your Windows PC is 64-bit.
Search for C: Windows System32 dllhost.exe
In my case my PC was a 64-bit system and so I switched to SysWOW64.
11 - Now double click dllhost.exe to select it.
12 - Now, click on ok and so To apply.
Method 2: Re-register the DLL via CMD Admin.
Try registering vbscript.dll and jscript.dll via command prompt again. Here is the method to do it.
1 - Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
2 - Now RUN these two commands one by one in CMD.
regsvr32 vbscript.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll
If the problem persists, continue with the next method.
Method 3: disable thumbnail previews
1 - Search File Explorer Options In the Windows 10 taskbar search, click File Explorer Options.
2 - Now, click on View Language
3 - Uncheck the option that says Always show icons, never thumbnails
4 - Click To apply.
Now our goal is to remove the existing thumbnails on your PC.
1. Press Tasto Windows + R together to open RUN.
2. Now type cleanmgr on it and click ok.
3. Click ok.
4. Uncheck all options except miniature and click ok and delete all thumbnail files.
5. Now to enable Thumbnail option once again. Just open the File Explorer option once again and check always show icons, never thumbnails.

Method 3: terminate the COM Surrogate process
1. Press CTRL + SHIFT + Esc keys together from keyboard to open task manager.
2. Now find Replace COM processes.
3. Right-click and choose final task.
Now try again.
Method 4: In File Explorer, choose List or Details view
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Click View.
3. Choose List o details to see.
Method 5: roll back video adapters
1. Press Tasto Windows + R together to open RUN.
2. Write devmgmt.msc on it and click ok.
3. Expand Video cards.
4. Right click and choose properties.
5. Click the driver tab and click Cancel Driver.
