One of the scariest blue screens of death errors for Windows 10 is:
FAT file system error
Although it is very obvious, it can be easily fixed.
Why
The cause of the error is that a hardware connected to the system cannot interact properly or causes it to stop.
The following troubleshooting steps may be helpful:
1} Disconnect all hardware devices from the system.
2} Update the drivers for the problematic hardware
3} Run CHKDSK
4} SFC scan
Solution 1] Disconnect all hardware peripherals from the system.
Since the problem is with the interfering hardware, we could unplug all peripherals from the system and plug them back in one by one to see which one is the problem.
Solution 2] Update the drivers for the problematic hardware
In case we find the problematic hardware in Solution 1, we have two options: completely remove the interfering hardware or update the drivers making it compatible with the system.
The procedure for updating the drivers is as follows:
1] Press Win + R to open the file run windows. gender devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open Device Manager.
2] Find the driver for the hardware causing the interference and update it.
Solution 3] Run CHKDSK
CHKDSK commands help check for bad sectors on a hard drive and update them. The procedure for CHKDSK is mentioned here.
Solution 4] SFC scan
An SFC scan helps to find corrupt or missing files on the system and to replace them. This is the procedure for an SFC scan.
