
Users reported an error while trying to install new programs, update drivers, reinstall OS, etc. The error is:
A referral was returned from the server.
This error would prevent installation and simply rebooting the system would not help.
Why
Although the exact cause is unknown, the reason could be a Windows update. This was speculated as many users said the problem was fixed when the last update was rolled back.
We could try the following steps in sequence to solve the problem:
Solution 1] Always run as administrator

Solution 2] Change the UAC settings
You can change the UAC settings to clear the error.

Solution 5] Roll back a Windows update

3] Install the program if possible.
4] Enter the following command to log out of the hidden administrator account:
net user administrator / active: no
