PerfLogs or performance-based logging is used to diagnose what is happening with Windows when used for different purposes. All these logs are collected by the operating system through a registry system built into Windows. These records are stored in folders and cannot be viewed by users.
So it is the Windows 10 OS that stores all its log files in the PerfLogs folder (created by the OS as mentioned above) and these log files contain information related to any system issues, performance reports. and any other important information that can be used for analysis.
Where is the folder located?
The folder is located in the root directory (root directory) where the operating system is installed. It is usually the C drive for most users, but it may differ for many other users. How to read PerfLogs
To read the files located inside the PerfLogs folder, you need to use the Windows 10 Performance Monitor application. This application can also obtain the PerfLogs log files and provide a clearer view. The application can also run diagnostics. Let's see how.
Step 1: Navigate to Home on the desktop (located at the bottom left of the screen) and type Performance monitoring.
Step 2: Left click on the result to open the file Performance monitoring application.
Step 3: When the app opens, go to Data Collector Sets on the left side of the window and click the arrow next to it to expand the section.
4 phase: Now select User definedthen right click on it and select New in the context menu.
Then click, Data collector set in the submenu.
Step 5: Open the Create a new set of data collectors Wizard. Follow the wizard instructions to create a new template.
Step 6: After configuring the model, it will immediately collect the data and store it in the file PerfLogs binder.
If you manually browse the folder, you will get the logs using the path given below:
C:PerfLogsSystemDiagnosticsComputerName_Date-000001
You will find a file Reports.html file inside the folder which can be opened in any browser and will show the synopsis of the performance logs in a clearer way and in a more understandable format.
*Note - PerfLogs The folder can be safely deleted, however, remember that every time you delete the folder, the operating system will automatically create it.
