Energy saving is important nowadays, and therefore many users are used to putting their PCs to sleep in order to wake up and restart work when needed. However, there are apparently some devices that can interrupt the hibernation process and wake your PC suddenly, which can interrupt your work schedule. More ends up consuming more power and thus draining the battery sooner.
But there's this new Windows 10 feature that helps you choose which devices can allow your PC to wake up and which ones won't. Interesting right? Let's see how to enable or disable this feature.
Method 1: Using Command Prompt
Step 1: Click on Home button and type Symbol of the system in the search field. Right-click on the result and select Run as administrator run Symbol of the system in administrator mode.
Step 2: A Symbol of the system run the following command and press Log in:
powercfg -devicequery wake_from_any
This will open a long list of all devices that can wake your PC from sleep mode. From here you can select the name of the device you want to enable to wake up your computer.
Step 3: Now if you have selected the device that you want to allow your PC to wake up, run the command in the following format and press Log in:
powercfg -deviceenablewake “Device_Name”
For example, here we want to allow the “High Definition Audio Device” device to wake up the PC, so the command will look like this:
powercfg -deviceenablewake “High Definition Audio Device”
* Note - You can replace the file Device name according to your requirement.
Now, simply restart your PC and you are done configuring which device activates your PC. You can also try the second method in case it doesn't work.
Method 2: use Device Manager
Step 1: press the Windows key + X together on the keyboard and click Device administrator give the menu answer.
Step 2: Now, for example, if you want to allow Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless AC 3160 to wake up your PC, then go to Network adapters and expand it. Then right click Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless AC 3160 and click Property.
Step 3: A In the Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 Properties window, click Power Management tab, check or uncheck the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer option depending on whether you want to allow or prevent activation of the computer. Press ok to save changes and exit.
That's all! And you've finished configuring the desired device to allow or prevent the computer from waking up.
