If you signed up for Google One, you may no longer need the additional storage space. Here's how to cancel your subscription.
Google One is a handy way to increase the storage capacity of your Google account from the usual free 15GB. The problem is that the extra storage comes at a cost. Also, the storage is only needed if you have filled the allocated 15 GB storage quota.
If you're miles away from filling the free 15GB, it's not worth the extra money on Google One. If you'd like to cancel your Google One subscription, here's how to do it.
What happens when you cancel Google One?
Before showing you how to cancel your Google One subscription, you should be aware of what will happen next. Besides losing access to more storage, what else will you be missing out on?
The first is access to Google Experts, a remote team of skilled professionals at your disposal if you need help regarding Google products and services. You'll also miss out on Google's free Android VPN, extra photo and video editing features in Google Photos, and special hotel rates.
And if you've shared your additional Google storage with family, that's no longer possible. However, each family member will keep their 15GB free share. If they have filled their 15GB of free storage, that will lead to several problems.
There are also other consequences that you may not have considered. Gmail will stop working - you will not be able to send and receive email messages. You won't be able to copy or edit affected files in Google Drive, and the sync and upload features won't work. Also, Google Photos won't be able to back up any media files.
To prevent this from happening, first check how much storage you have left in your Google account. Fortunately, these benefits won't go away immediately - Google will take them away from you at the end of the billing cycle (when your Google One subscription is due to renew).
