
On public networks, it is recommended that you set network locations to private. So, if you don't know what your network location settings are (can your PC be discoverable?), Follow the instructions below to view it. If you feel you don't need this PC to be discoverable by another PC connected to the network, you need to change the network path to be private in Windows 10. Follow the steps below to change it.
Case 1: when using WiFi
1. Press Windows + R key at the same time to open Run.
2. Copy and paste the location below to open the WiFi settings.
ms-settings: network-wifi
3. Click on the connected WiFi network
4. Now choose Private as a network option on the next page
Case 2: when using Ethernet
1. Press Windows key + R key at the same time to open the run.
2. Enter the location below in the run command box.
ms-settings: network-ethernet
3. Click Ethernet in the left menu and then click on the icon that says linked on the right as shown below.
Phase 4 - On the next screen, choose the private option as shown.
You can turn it back on if you wish, but it is strictly recommended that you only turn it back on on private networks like home or work.
