Sometimes, the size of a piece of data is so large that it cannot be easily understood. To overcome this problem, we use “Charts”. The graph is a form of representation of figures and values in the form of diagrams. These diagrams can be in the form of column, line, pie, bar, area, etc. charts. Therefore, understanding the figures becomes simple. Charts are mainly used in Excel documents as the values are calculated in spreadsheets.

In this article, we will follow some steps on how to edit and insert a chart in Microsoft Word 2016:
Type “word 2016” into the Windows search bar located next to the Start icon. Click on the first option provided.
Click the "Insert" tab located in the upper left corner of the "Word" window. After clicking, a ribbon toolbar will appear which provides numerous options such as paging options, tables, illustrations, symbols etc.
In the illustration section, click “Graph”.
The categories for selecting a graph can be viewed in the left submenus of the “Insert Graph” window. You can select any type of chart you want to include in your word document.
The upper section of the window is made up of several sub-categories of the selected chart. Choose the most appropriate one by moving the cursor over the subcategories and clicking on it.
After selecting the chart and its subcategory, click "OK" to continue editing the chart.
Now, the selected chart will be displayed on your Word document with its default values in an Excel page. Here, we will change the Excel sheet values and which would reflect on the selected chart.
To change the values, click in any cell and type the value. The entered values will be displayed on the graph.
Here, we have defined a column chart for a “mobile phone company” which shows quarterly results ie Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 in terms of market share, increase and growth rate respectively.
To change the name of the chart, right click on “Chart Title” and click on “Edit Text”.
Enter the name of a desired chart. For example, we entered "mobile phone company".
You can change the size of the chart to make it large or small. To do this, click and drag on the “circle” icon provided on all sides of the chart. Dragging the icon towards the graph will make the graph smaller and dragging it away will make it appear larger.
If you need different placement of text and images, you can try the “Layout Options”. The layout options consist of features such as placement, text arrangement, and image size.
To use this option, click on the “arc” icon located on the right side of the image.
You can choose various layout options from the icons. If you would like to have a layout other than the default layouts, click the “View More” button.
The "see more" button opens the layout properties window. You can create a custom layout with different horizontal and vertical alignments.
After defining all alignments and other options, click "OK" to complete the process.
You can also format the chart area by changing its color, transparency, outline and text fill. To use this option, double-click the chart and change the options provided in the right section of the word page.
You can try out different charts of the same chart type. To use this option, check out the other design column charts provided at the top of the word page.
For example, we have selected a different column chart shown by the arrow in the screenshot provided:
If you want to change the current chart, repeat step 3 and choose another chart.
For example, we have chosen a "pie" chart. To select a pie chart, click on the “Pie” provided in the left section of the “Insert Chart” window. Select a sub-category of the pie chart and click "OK".
Now, the pie chart will appear on the word page, and you can change various pie chart options the same way you did for the column chart.
