Fortunately, it's really easy to enable dark mode in Windows 11, which will affect both the appearance of the apps and the taskbar. Here you are how to enable dark mode in windows 11.
How to enable dark mode in Windows 11
As anticipated, enabling dark mode in Windows 11 is really simple, just follow a few steps and you will find yourself a dark theme that will tire your eyes less. Here's how to do it:
- Position the cursor on a free part of the desktop, press the right button and then select "Customize". Alternatively, go to Windows 11 Settings and select "Customize" from the left menu;
- Here you will find a series of parameters divided by category and you will have to select "Colors";
- Once you are in Colori, the first entry will be "Choose the mode" or, if you have the operating system in English, "Choose your mode";
- Now you just have to select the preferred mode from the drop-down menu. You can choose between Light, Dark and Custom. In our case we have to select Dark.
By choosing the "Custom" mode, you can choose separately whether to enable the light or dark theme for the apps and the taskbar. For example you might want the taskbar dark, but the rest of Windows 11 in light mode.
How to enable high contrast themes for dark mode
If you want to override the color settings for each app so that you have light text on a dark background even in your documents, you need to use a contrast theme in Windows 11. To switch to a contrasting theme:
- Position the cursor on a free part of the desktop, press the right button and then select "Customize". Alternatively, go to Windows 11 Settings and select "Customize" from the left menu;
- Select "Colors";
- Scroll down the page until you find the option "Contrasting themes";
- Here you can choose different themes that make text and apps easier to view. You can choose the theme Aquatic (Aquatic), or try Dusk (Dusk) o Night sky (Night sky).
- Once you have selected the theme, click on “Apply”. Windows 11 will refresh and now all content will be in dark mode. To go back, just select "None" in the contrasting themes.
