Method 1: repair damaged system files
If the problem with the scanner is due to damaged system files, repairing those files will surely make the scanner work again in Windows 10. Follow these steps to repair damaged system files.
Step 1 - Hit the Windows key and write Symbol of the system In the search box, right-click the first result and click run as administrator (Make sure you are logged in with your computer's administrator account.)
Step 2 - Click Yup in the message.
Step 2 - A command prompt window will open, type SFC / scannow and hit enter. The system scan will begin and will take some time to complete.
Damaged system files on your computer will be corrected through this process and the scanner will most likely start working. If not, try the next method.
Method 2: configure scan services
Scanners and printers are complex hardware and require a lot of services to run smoothly on your computer. If any of these services are misconfigured or removed, the scanner will not work on your system, so you need to verify that all scan services are configured correctly.
These are the common services for any scanner, you need to verify that all these service states are started with the following method.
- RPC remote procedure call
- DCOM Server Process Launcher
- RPC endpoint mapper
- Shell hardware detection
- Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
I'll show you the process for RPC remote procedure call service, you can follow the same procedure for all these services.
Step 1 - Open run window by pressing windows Y R simultaneously.
Step 2 - generally services.msc in the text box and hit enter.
Step 3 - A service window will open with a long list of services. To locate RPC remote procedure call in the list and choose property give the menu answer.
Step 4: Check the status of the service, if it is stopped, start the service and press the key ok button.
Repeat this process for all services above to properly configure all services for the scanner.
