The blue screen of death or commonly known as a BSOD is the result of a hardware malfunction (in some cases it could be due to a hardware failure) or a hardware driver software malfunction.
In some critical cases, reinstalling Windows becomes mandatory, while in most cases reinstalling Windows is not necessary.
Light: How to fix the black screen of death error
Whenever there is a BSOD on your system, Windows automatically generates a minidump file. The minidump file is simply a log file that contains specific codes responsible for crashes within the system. The files are stored in the minidump subdirectory, eg. C: Windows Minidump
In this article, we will discuss the methods to fix Blue Screen of Death in Windows 10:
Using System Restore
Restore points are available on the system if system protection is enabled. Your computer automatically creates recovery points with a description of the date and time they were created. The following steps will guide you on how to use System Restore in Windows 10:
Step 1:
Right click on the “Start” icon located in the lower left corner of the screen. Click "System" to display the "System Settings" window.
Step 2:
Click on “System Protection”.
Step 3:
In the "System Protection" section, click "System Restore".
Note: System Restore will prevent any changes currently being made. System Restore helps you get back to a stage where your PC / laptop was working fine with no hardware driver software or hardware issues.
Method 2: Install the BlueScreenView software and investigate the cause
You can download and install the “BlueScreenView” software to determine the exact cause of the BSOD. The download link is http://download.cnet.com/BlueScreenView/3000-2094_4-10965136.html
After installing the software, you can click on “Advanced Options” to load the minidump file and decrypt the codes.
