We usually open several windows of the same application while working on our Windows 10 systems. While this can make viewing easier, the taskbar starts to fill up. The good thing, however, is that Windows 10 comes with the option to group icons on the taskbar and that's usually the default, so windows for similar icons should be grouped automatically. However, some users have encountered an issue where this doesn't happen to them.
So today, in this post, we're going to explain how to group similar icons on the Windows 10 taskbar and save a significant amount of taskbar space. Let's see how.
Method 1: Using the taskbar settings
Step 1: Right-click on the file Application bar and select Taskbar settings from the menu.
Step 2: A settings window, go to the right side of the panel, scroll down and under Combine taskbar buttons, set the field to Always hide labels.
This will help you group similar icons on the taskbar on your Windows 10 PC.
If you want, you can also use the "When the taskbar is full“As explained below.
There are two more options:
- When the taskbar is full - You can use it when you have many applications open and want to combine them to save space.
- May - By selecting this option, applications will be distributed with separate icons for each in the system tray and will not group them despite the number of open windows.
However, if you want to make the changes on more than one computer, you can change the registry settings as shown below.
Method 2: make changes to the registry settings
Step 1: press the Win + R keys together on the keyboard to open the file Run command.
Step 2: A Run command window type regedit and hit Log in to open the file Registry Editor window.
Step 3: A Registry Editor window, go to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer
Now go to the right side of the window, select the DWORD value Without TaskGrouping and hit To remove.
* Note - If the value data field is set to 1, grouping of the system tray icon is disabled.
That's all. These methods should help you group similar icons on the Windows 10 taskbar together.
