Windows 11, to be installed, it needs very specific hardware requirements, as can be seen from the indications given by Microsoft itself, on the.
The requirements are:
- 64 GHz or faster 1-bit CPU with at least two logical drives,
- 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of disk space,
- UEFI firmware with Secure Boot active,
- TPM 2.0 controller. It is a microchip integrated into the PC motherboard, or added later, which protects low-level data.
Although it is possible to pass the checks of the operating system, and install Windows 11 also without requirements, this is a practice not recommended, as Microsoft does not guarantee updates or stability for operating systems installed on computers, which do not meet the basic requirements.
To install Windows 11 it can be done by practicing:
- an update,
- a clean installation "from scratch,
- in both cases we should make a USB key or a DVD from which to start the installation
- for this purpose you can use,
- by clicking on the Download button, located near the item Creating installation media for Windows 11.
Once the download is complete:
- open the obtained file,
- after accepted the license to use the program, choose whether to create one USB flash drive, in this case, we will have to connect a USB key with at least 8 GB of free space to the computer and wait for the operating system files to be copied to it;
- or download only the ISO file, where the ISO file containing the operating system has been downloaded, which must then be burned using a special program.
Once you have created the Windows 11 disk or key, you can proceed with the installation of the operating system, even if our computer does not have the minimum requirements.
In the next paragraphs we will see how to do it.
How to install Windows 11 with no minimum requirements: update
So let's see how to upgrade to Windows 11, even without having the minimum requirements and without losing personal files, with the Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems, while with Windows 7, a clean installation must be carried out, and we will also see this in another part of this article.
Official procedure
Microsoft has released an official method to circumvent checking some minimum requirements for Windows 11:
- la CPU family ,
- the presence of the controller TPM 2.0.
The remaining minimum requirements (TPM 1.2 controller and Secure Boot) must be present: otherwise, we will have to follow a slightly more complex procedure, which we will discuss in the next section of this chapter.
To carry out this type of installation it is necessary, as we have already seen, to have an installation support for Windows 11, and to apply a small change to the system registry, using the integrated Windows editor.
To start it:
- press the key combination Win + R on the keyboard (the Win key is the one depicting the windows flag),
- type the regedit.exe command in the panel that appears on the screen,
- give Enter,
- click on the button Yes, to authorize the start of the editor.
Now, using the left side of the window:
- reach the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key SetupSYSTEMSetup ,
- click on the folder MoSetup, visible inside,
- if it is not there, it can be created -
- by right clicking on the folder,
- selecting items New> Key from the menu that appears,
- assigning the name MoSetup to the new key. Then click OK to confirm its creation.
After selecting the MoSetup folder:
- right click on it,
- I will select the voice New> DWORD Value (32-bit)** from the contextual menu that is proposed,
- name it AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU,
- give Submit,
- double click on the newly created value and set the value 1 within the field Value data,
- click on the button OK and restart your computer to apply the change.
Now we can start the installation of Windows 11 with the support made previously:
- insert this into your computer,
- if prompted, choose to run the file Setup.exe from the Autoplay screen.
If we see nothing:
- manually start the operating system installation file,
- click on the icon gialla poster present in the Windows taskbar,
- I will select the voice What PC from the left sidebar,
- right click on the Windows 11 USB stick or DVD icon and select the item apri from the proposed context menu.
To start the Windows 11 installation:
- double click on the Setup.exe file visible in the new window,
- press the Yes button.
Now missing from:
- to select-
- la lingua,
- the date and currency format,
- la keyboard language,
- choose NEXT and, if prompted, enter the code product key of Windows 11 in our possession,
- if we don't have it, click the item I don't have a product key, to activate the operating system later.
Continuation:
- indicating that you want to carry out theupdating on Windows,
- specifying if keep personal files and apps,
- whether to store only i personal files ,
- or if keep nothing, in this case, we will have to indicate the disk on which to install the new copy of Windows.
- by clicking on the appropriate item.
After confirming all your choices, the Windows 11 upgrade should start and finish automatically. At the next login, if we have chosen to keep both the data and the apps and settings intact, we will be able to log in with the account previously configured on the computer, otherwise you will be asked to log in. initial configuration of the operating system.
Third Party Software
If we cannot proceed with the update it is because it is on our computer absent any type of TPM controller, and then you can use a third party program, Called Universal Media Creation Tool, able to evade any type of control.
To get the software, which is free and open source:
- ,
- click on the items -- e Download ZIP.
Once the archive containing the program has been downloaded:
- extract it in a folder of your choice,
- open the folder in question and navigate to the directories MediaCreationTool.bat-main > bypass11,
- double-click the file SKIP_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd,
- press the button Yes (if necessary) and wait for the keys required to evade the checks to be included in the Windows registry.
Now you have to connect the Windows 11 key or DVD to the computer, and follow the same procedure as for the update.
If for some reason it is not possible to use the tool just considered, the same result can be obtained with a program for creating bootable USB sticks.
How to install Windows 11 with no CPU requirements: clean install
Let's tackle the topic of how to install a brand new copy of Windows 11.
Again it is possible to bypass the system requirements check, even if it is an operation strongly advised against by Microsoft and for which no type of support, assistance or update guarantee is offered by the big Redmond.
Installation from USB / ISO
If our computer does not have an officially compatible Windows 11 CPU, but meets all other requirements (the presence of the TPM 2.0 controller and the Secure Boot setting enabled), you can perform a “clean” installation of the operating system, simply by booting the computer from the Windows installation media.
Microsoft allows, in fact, to start the installation directly from BIOS / UEFI without checking the requirements for the processor.
Then:
- take the key,
- or the Windows 11 installation disc,
- insert it into your computer e reboot the system.
If we see a message asking you to press any key to boot computer from DVD / USB, it's done. You need to do this within five seconds to start the Windows 11 installation program.
If instead we see the boot screen of the old operating system, we need to enter the computer's BIOS / UEFI system and set the boot da USB o DVD.
Once in the Windows 11 installer:
- select the language that we prefer to use,
- click on the buttons NEXT e Install,
- if necessary, enter the codice product key of Windows 11 in our possession,
- or select the item I do not have a product key, if we do not yet have it,
- select the Windows 11 version to be installed among those proposed,
- accepts the operating system license,
- click on the button NEXT,
- indicate that you want to perform an installation personalized of the operating system.
Go on:
- select the disk or partition on which to install Windows 11,
- format it using the appropriate button,
- click on the button Forward,
- wait for the Windows installation, which will involve several reboots, to complete.
At the end of the process, you will be asked to perform the first configuration of the operating system.
Forced removal of controls
If, during the procedure, we display an error regarding theunable to upgrade to Windows 11, due to the absent minimum requirements, it means that our computer has not only incompatibility due to the CPU, but also due to the TPM controller and / or the Secure Boot.
Although Microsoft, as already mentioned, strongly discourages the installation of Windows 11 in the absence of these requirements, there is still a method to succeed in the enterprise.
When we see the error message during Windows installation, we must:
- click on the symbol of arrow, located at the top left,
- press the key combination Shift + F10 on the keyboard, in order to open a Command Prompt,
- type the regedit.exe command in the window that appears,
- give Enter and use the left part of the registry editor to reach the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetup,
- right click on the folder Setup,
- select items New> Key from the menu that appears,
- assign the name to the key we are about to create LabConfig.
- to confirm, press the Enter key on the keyboard.
There are still a few steps to take:
- right click on the newly created key,
- select items New> DWORD (32-bit) value,
- rename the value to BypassTPMCheck,
- double click on it,
- set the field Value data su 1 and click on the button OKAY.
By doing so, we will have passed the TPM check for the next Windows 11 installation.
If we want, we can pass the verification of the remaining minimum requirements, creating other DWORD (32 bit) values in the LabConfig key, and setting their values to 1, exactly as seen above.
The names to be assigned are as follows:
- BypassSecureBootCheck, to skip the Secure boot check,
- BypassRAMCheck, to overcome that of RAM,
- BypassStorageCheck, to circumvent the one on storage space.
Once the necessary changes have been applied:
- close the Windows Registry Editor,
- tighten the Command Prompt window,
- without restarting the computer, resume the installation of the operating system from where we left it, proceeding in a similar way to what we saw previously,
- the setup of the new operating system will be successfully completed.
