Most of these programs / applications start automatically every time the device is started as they tend to be built into the boot process. However, Windows 10 comes with a “Startup Manager” feature which helps make the startup process much smoother.
Disable Windows 10 startup programs in Startup Manager
The Windows 10 Startup Manager is a unique and extremely easy-to-use feature of the operating system. It offers an easy-to-understand interface that integrates with the operating system and even displays programs that cause slow startup times.
The Startup Manager is located in the "Task Manager" option in Windows 10, then launch the "Task Manager" directly by right clicking on the taskbar or simply press the hot keys "Ctrl plus Alt plus Del" and then go to "Task Manager" from the list. You can also press the shortcut buttons "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" to open the "Task Manager" box directly.
The “Task Manager” dialog will open with a list of all open programs. Click on the tab that says “Startup” and it will show you the list of all the programs that load every time your device starts up.
The Startup Manager interface is probably one of the easiest to understand of all operating systems. It lists all open programs very well starting from its icon on the far left, followed by the name, the publisher's name on its right, the status (enabled / disabled), ending with the Startup Impact of each program at the start of the PC (low medium high).
If it mentions “Not measured”, it means it's a recently added program and therefore Windows hasn't observed its behavior. In such circumstances, you can simply restart the device and you will notice the measured impact.
Now you can disable / disable any programs you don't want to load while your device starts / starts. This will undoubtedly help speed up the Windows startup process considerably.
Decide which programs to disable by looking at the impact, so if you disable, for example: Google Drive, it won't open by itself the next time your PC starts, you will have to open it manually.
Alternatively, for help choosing which programs to disable, right click on the program which will give you the "Search Online" option. Windows will open a web page with the name of the .exe file and the program that will let you know all the details about the program you did not know and why it matters.
Get rid of animations and shadows
It is recommended that you delete all unnecessary fancy elements from your PC, such as animations, to speed up the startup of your Windows 10 device and improve performance. To change the settings, you need to go to the “Start Button” option, then right-click to open the list of options and click System.
The box that opens will now show a list of options in the upper left corner of the screen. Choose the option here that says "Advanced system settings".
Now, click on the Advanced tab in the window that just opened.
And then click the settings as shown in the screenshot below.
Now a window will open with the heading “Performance Options”. From the different tabs you can see, choose the "Visual Effects" tab.
Then click on the third radio button which mentions “Adjust for best performance” and finally hit the “Apply” button.
This step hones your Windows 10 PC's ability to not only start up faster, but also perform much better.
Reorganize the disk files by defragmenting the drives
Defragment files on your PC hard drive to archive individual files in contiguous regions. This process will greatly improve your PC's startup speed and overall performance. So to achieve this, just go to the “File Explorer” option and right click on “Local Disk (C :)” and finally click on the option that says “Properties”.
You will notice a series of tabs under “Local Disk (C :)” from which you need to select the “Tools” tab.
Under this, you need to click on the “Optimize” button under the option which says “Optimize and defragment the drive”.
Now wait until the defragmentation process starts as it takes some time. When done, you can restart your computer and you will automatically notice a modest improvement in your PC's startup time and overall performance.
