How to speed up Windows 11

How to speed up Windows 11

Shortly after the release of Windows 11, Microsoft's innovative operating system update, successor to Windows 10, we immediately inserted it into our PC.

After some time, however, the computer's functions have slowed down, especially when Windows starts.

Working with a slow PC is certainly not the best, and therefore it is worth looking for a solution to this problem.

We give an answer in this article, in which we will tackle the theme of how to speed up Windows 11.

Using some simple tricks, you can improve the performance of your computer, without having to install other software.

Let's see how.

How to speed up Windows 11 to the max

Let's take into consideration the integrated tools that Windows 11 makes available for maintenance and performance improvement.

Speed up Windows 11 at startup

Once installed, various programs open automatically each time the operating system is started, remaining then always active in the background and removing resources from the RAM and processor from the computer.

This results in a general slowdown of the operating system and a delay in its initial startup.

Then let's start taking action for speed up Windows 11 startup.

We have to use the tool Activity management which is usually used to monitor the performance of the computer hardware and the processes running on it.

To proceed:

  • do click destroy on the button Home of Windows, the one with the pennant located at the bottom, on the taskbar,
  • I will select the voice Activity management dal menu,
  • in the window that opens, click on the wording Start placed high,

We will discover the list of programs that can open automatically when Windows starts, complete with a percentage of performance impact (High Low etc.).

To prevent one of the listed software from opening automatically:

  • click on his name,
  • press the Disable button at the bottom,
  • be careful not to disable all those programs and processes (e.g. theantivirus or video card manager), useful for the regular functioning of the computer and its safety.

Uninstall unnecessary programs

If among the programs set to start automatically, we have noticed some that we have not used for a long time and, therefore, are useless, better uninstall them.

This will allow you to reclaim disk space, even if it does not directly speed up the performance of the operating system.

remove unnecessary programs its a computer with Windows 11:

  • do click destroy on the button Home on Windows,
  • from the menu that is shown, select the item App and features,
  • in the list at the bottom of the window that opens we will see the programs installed on your computer.

If we have found one we no longer need:

  • press button ⁝,
  • from here, press twice in a row on the item Uninstall.

If you are asked:

  • answer Yes to the Windows user control prompt,
  • we will be redirected to the uninstallation process of the selected program,
  • to complete the uninstallation, press the buttons repeatedly Yes and Next / Next.

Before proceeding, let's consider the fact that computers, with underperforming hardware, may have difficulty managing programs that are particularly demanding in terms of resources (for example those of video editing).

If we have problems with some software, we will have to think about the use of less demanding programs and check those running, with the greatest consumption of resources, by accessing the tab Processes of the instrument Activity management, as we have already seen.

Remove "junk" files

Using the PC leads to the creation of temporary files, not always useful: these are the so-called cache file, which are used to speed up the loading of certain information into the programs you use.

Over time, these files can congest the disk and, in some cases, can even become corrupt, leading to malfunctions and software errors, so it is better to delete them from time to time.

To do this:

  • press the button Home on Windows,
  • cercare Cleaning disk,
  • click on the right result,
  • in the window that opens, select from the list the memory unit we want to clean, it should be (C :) in the case of the system drive on which Windows is installed,
  • press the button OK.

At this point:

  • tick the boxes placed next to the various items available (eg. File temporanei Internet, Cache shader DirectX ecc.),
  • press the button OK placed at the bottom,
  • click on the button File deletion per confermare l'operazione.

If we want Windows to periodically perform an automatic removal of unnecessary files, we can enable the Memory sensor.

To do this:

  • do click destroy on the button Home on Windows,
  • I will select the voice Settings
  • going up System> Storage,
  • click onswitch placed next to the wording Memory sensor.

To set a time interval for the execution of this function:

  • press the button> placed next to theswitch mentioned above,
  • tap onoption shown in the section Configure cleaning schedules,
  • choose the option we prefer from the menu
  1. Everyday,
  2. Every week,
  3. other.

Use a "light" antivirus

Sometimes the slowdowns in the daily use of the PC could be due to the action of malware, or other malicious software.

It is therefore worthwhile update the antivirus regularly installed on your computer and regularly perform a security scan.

To do this, it is better to use a "light" antivirus, as the slowdowns could be due to the action of this kind of programs.

Let's see how to use the pre-installed security program on Windows, which requires fewer system resources than other antivirus, that is Windows Defender.

To install its updates:

  • access the settings Windows, as we have previously,
  • going up Windows Update> Check for updates,
  • wait, if updates are present, they are installed automatically.

To run a security scan:

  • I will select the voice Privacy and security of the initial window settings on Windows,
  • going up Virus and threat protection> Start quick scan,
  • wait for the antivirus to finish its work.

To carry out a more in-depth system analysis:

  • click on the item Analysis options,
  • select the option that we consider most appropriate from the list eg.
  1. Comprehensive analysis,
  2. Personalized analysis,
  3. other,
  • press the button Start analysis.

Defragment the disk

In case a mechanical hard disk is installed in our computer, we can use the tool disk defragmentation built into Windows.

This tool makes the data stored on the storage drive more compact, thus reducing the computer's workload when accessing files and programs.

To use it:

  • press the button Home on Windows,
  • from here, go on All apps> Windows Tools> Defragment & Optimize Drives,
  • in the window that opens, select the storage unit we want to defragment from the list, eg. (C : ),
  • click on the button Optimize,
  • reply Yes at the Windows user control prompt,
  • wait for the operation to be performed, it may take several minutes depending on the amount of data processed.

Mechanical hard disks almost always have lower writing and reading speeds than SSD, Than we replace a storage drive of this type, especially if it is the one on which Windows is installed, could be an ideal solution for improving the performance of the computer.

If there is a SSD, we must make sure that the programmed optimization option is active, defragmentation is not performed on the SSDs, as it could be harmful.

To do this:

  • in the tool window Optimize Drive, select theunit that interests us,
  • press the button Change settings,
  • nIn the window that opens, make sure that the is shown check next to the item Run on a schedule (recommended),
  • if not, click on the box next to the wording in question,
  • press onoption shown next to the item Frequency,
  • select the cadence that we consider most appropriate for optimization (eg. Every day, every week ecc.),
  • press the button OK.

Avoid all-in-one optimization programs

Se, per speed up your PC with Windows 11, we are considering using gods all-in-one optimization programs, better to change your mind, as most software of this kind, especially those that promise to increase computer performance by removing unnecessary files, optimizing RAM and so on, in reality, in many cases, only worsen performance of the PC.

This is because they are activated automatically when Windows starts, acting in the background, to monitor the use of system resources and exploit them.

In addition, some of these programs contain particularly invasive advertisements, automatic redirects to promotional sites and, in some cases, even potentially harmful content for computer security.

Disable graphic effects

The Windows interface and menus feature numerous animations, transitions, transparencies, and others graphic effects, which can make your computer run slower.

To disable these effects:

  • open the settings Windows doing click destroy on the button Start,
  • selecting the appropriate item from the menu.

Done this:

  • going up System> System Information> Advanced System Settings> Advanced,
  • press the button Settings from the section Performance,
  • in the window that is shown to us now, click on the item Adjust for best performancei,
  • press the button Apply placed at the bottom,
  • confirm by pressing the button OK.

To adjust each graphic effect individually:

  • choose the option Personalized,
  • select the effects to keep active by pressing on the relative items eg.
  1. Show mouse pointer shadows,
  2. Show window shades,
  3. other,
  • click on the button Apply and then on the button OKAY.
