Google has released Smart Reply and Smart Write options for Gmail and they are enabled by default. This machine learning tool allows us to quickly send a response or compose a grammatically correct email. If you don't find the Smart Reply or Smart Compose features useful, here's how you can disable them in Gmail.
Turn off Quick Reply and Quick Dial in Gmail on your desktop
Here are the steps you need to follow to turn off Smart Reply and Smart Write features in Gmail on your desktop.
- Open Gmail and log in with your account.
- Click on the sprocket or the Settings icon at the top.
- From the list that appears, choose the “See all settings” button.
- Under the "General" tab, scroll down and locate "Smart Write". Select the circle in front of "Write suggestions disabled".
- Scroll further down and locate the 'Smart Reply' option and select 'Smart Reply Off'.
- Finally, scroll down to the bottom of the list and hit the "Save Changes" button.
You will be redirected to your Gmail inbox. You are good. The next time you reply or compose an email, these smart replying or smart composing features will no longer appear.
Turn off Quick Reply and Speed Dial in Gmail for Android
Disabling smart features on Gmail for Android is quite simple. Here's how to do it.
- Open the Gmail app on your Android smartphone or tablet.
- Tap the three-line icon (hamburger menu option) at the top left of the interface. Scroll down and select "Settings".
- In the new window that opens, tap on the Gmail account you no longer want to use with the smart reply or smart dial function.
- Scroll down and in the General section, locate and deselect both the Smart Write and Smart Reply features.
You can follow the same steps for all your other Gmail accounts on your Android device.
As you can see, it's easy to turn off (or turn on) the smart reply and smart dial features in Gmail.
