Automatic maintenance is the feature in Windows systems (especially Windows 10) that performs tasks such as software diagnostics, Windows update, software updates, etc. These processes are necessary and do not interfere, which means they would run in the background while you do your work. However, this is not entirely true because even if the processes are running in the background, they slow down the system.
RAM takes on the burden of disk usage when multiple processes try to compete for resources. Therefore, Microsoft, with all its wisdom, has modified Windows so that these background processes run at full speed when the system is idle (that is, when we don't use it for our work).

However, sometimes we feel the need to manually start automatic maintenance because we can't wait for the system to shut down. Here's how to start automatic maintenance in Windows 10:
Using the control panel
1] Press Win + R to open the Run window and type the command Control Panel. Press Enter to open the Control Panel window.

This manually starts the maintenance processes and if you need to stop it later, it could be done from the same window.
Using the command prompt
Press Win + R to open the Run window, then type cmd. Press Enter to open the Command Prompt window.
Command to start maintenance:
Manually Start Automatic Maintenance: MSchedExe.exe Start
Command to interrupt maintenance:
Manually Stop Automatic Maintenance: MSchedExe.exe Stop
Using Powershell
Press Win + R to open the Run window, then type PowerShell. Press Enter to open the Powershell window. The commands for starting and stopping maintenance are the same as discussed in the previous method for the command prompt.
