Microsoft makes sure that all of its Windows applications, including Microsoft Store applications, are automatically updated. This helps you stay on the latest version of all apps with minimal hassle. Apparently this automatic update feature for Microsoft Store apps was introduced with update KB 2919355.
However, users have complained that Microsoft Store applications are not automatically updated on their Windows 10 PC. When you open the Store, the available application updates are displayed and that you need to download them manually.
According to Microsoft, there is a possibility that you are using a statically aligned PAC (Automatic Proxy Configuration) file and that it is causing the problem. Fortunately, there are a couple of methods available that can fix the problem that applications don't update automatically. Let's see how.
Method 1: Make sure the settings are active
The Automatically update apps option in Settings may be disabled. So double check if it's on, if not turn it on.
Step 1: Navigate to Home button (windows icon) in the lower left corner of the desktop and type Microsoft Store in the search box.
Step 2: Left click on the result to open the file Microsoft Store window.
Step 3: As the Microsoft Store opens, go to the three horizontal dots at the top right of the window. Click to expand the menu and select settings.
Step 4: A settings window below App updates, check if the To update application options are automatically enabled. If not, move the slider to the right to activate it.
Step 5: Now go back to the menu (three horizontal points), click on it and select Downloads and updates.
Step 6: Now in Downloads and updates page, click Receive updates to check for new updates.
Store apps should automatically update now. But if the problem persists, try the second method.
Method 2: clear the Microsoft Store cache
Step 1: Go to windows icon (Home) on the desktop and in the search field type Symbol of the system.
Step 2: Now, right click on the result and select Run as administrator in the context menu to open the file Symbol of the system in administrator mode.
Step 3: A Symbol of the system (administrator mode), type the following command and press Log in:
Let the process complete. It will clear all cache which may be preventing updates. When finished, the Microsoft Store will start automatically. Applications should now continue to update automatically. However, if the problem persists then follow the third method.
Method 3: reinstall the Microsoft Store app
If no other method works, the only option now would be to reinstall the entire Microsoft application with administrator rights. Let's see how.
Step 1: Go to the bottom left of the desktop and right-click on the file Home button (windows icon).
Step 2: From the context menu, select Windows PowerShell (administrator) to open the file Windows Powershell window with administrator privileges.
Step 3: A Windows Powershell (administrator) in the window, type the following command and press Log in:
Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}
This will reinstall the full Microsoft Store application and start the store as done. Microsoft Store apps should now update automatically.
Method 4: Using the Microsoft Store Troubleshooter
Windows comes with a built-in troubleshooter for several apps and that also includes the Windows Store. Let's see how to fix the Microsoft Store app update problem.
Step 1: Navigate to the bottom left of the desktop, click Home button (windows icon) and select settings (located above the energia option) in the context menu.
Step 2: A settings window, select Update and security.
Step 3: A Update and security page, click Solve problems on the left side of the panel.
Step 4: Now go to the right side of the window, scroll down and click Additional troubleshooting tools.
Step 5: A Additional troubleshooting tools page, scroll down to get to the Find and solve other problems section.
To locate Windows Store App and select it. Click on Run the troubleshooter button.
Step 6: Let the troubleshooter detect any problems, then follow the wizard's instructions. It will take some time to find the update automatically.
It will give you the option to reset specific apps that aren't working. Click on Open apps and functions to restore the problematic application.
This should solve the problem of Microsoft Store applications not updating automatically on your Windows 10 PC. If the problem persists, follow the fourth method.
Method 5: restart the Microsoft Store
Step 1: Press the Windows + X keys together on the keyboard to open the context menu.
Step 2: In the context menu, select settings.
Step 3: A settings window, click Applications.
Step 4: A Applications window, it will take you directly to the file Applications and features section.
On the right side of the window, scroll down and in the application list, find Microsoft Store. Select it and then click Advanced options Right away.
Step 5: In the next window, scroll down and find the file Restart option. Then click Restart button below it.
If the Store is open, turn it off and once the reset is complete, launch the Store again to see if the apps update automatically. If you don't already, follow the fifth method.
Method 6: creating a new user profile
Step 1: print Win + R together on the keyboard to open the file Run command.
Step 2: A Run command window type netplwiz and press ok to open the file User Accounts the dialog box.
Step 3: A User Accounts window under the users click on the tab Inserisci button.
Step 4: In the Microsoft login window that opens, select Sign in without a Microsoft account.
Step 5: It will take you to the file Add a user window, where you can choose to create a file Account locale.
Step 6: Complete the form and click The next to finish creating a file Account locale and sign in without a Microsoft account.
Step 7: Now go back to User Accounts dialog box and select the account you just created in the Users for this computer section and click Property button below.
Step 8: A Property dialog box, go to Group membership tab and select the radio button next to CEO.
This will set you up as an administrator. Press To apply and so ok to save changes and exit.
Sign in with this new account and the Windows Store apps should now update automatically. However, if the problem persists, try the sixth method.
