
If you use Word every day to create documents, you may encounter this error "Insufficient memory or disk space. the requested character cannot be displayed". You may also see similar errors asking you to close any extra windows and try again, or it may even show a detailed message indicating that your system's memory is running out, despite the fact that there is enough RAM or hard drive space.
While you can double-check the free space in your system's RAM or reset Word options, you can also try a quick fix to fix it once and for all, if there is no space problem. We show you how.

Step 1: Click on Home on the desktop and type %appdata% in the search box to open the destination File folder.
Step 2: In app data > roaming folder> double click on the file Microsoft folder.
Step 3: In Microsoft folder> double click on the file models folder.
Step 4: In the folder menu, click Show tab located at the top of the window, next to the file To share tab. Now, under the Show tab, click options right to open the file Folder options window.
Step 5: In Folder options window, click on the file Show tab, scroll down, find Hide extensions for known file typesand uncheck the box next to it. When done, press ok and press Yup in the prompt that opens.
Step 6: Now, in the models folder, rename the file normal.dotm to Normal, old.
You're done now. Simply reboot your system and open Word without errors.
