Through a press release on its official blog, PlayStation confirmed that Variable refresh rate support will be available on PS5 in the coming months. Therefore, the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) it can also be used on PlayStation 5.



In the release, PlayStation explains that on HDMI 2.1 compatible TVs and PC monitors, VRR will dynamically synchronize the display update rate with PlayStation 5 graphic output. This will improve the visual performance for PS5 games, minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts, such as frame pacing and tearing problems. The gameplay of many PS5 titles will be smoother through instant rendering of game scenes, sharper graphics, and reduced input lag.

In addition, previously released PS5 games may be optimized for VRR via a game patch and future titles may include VRR support at launch.

As an additional option, Playstation will also allow you to apply VRR to PS5 games that don't support it. This feature may improve the video quality of some games. However, this could also cause unexpected visual effects and, in that case, it would be recommended to turn it off.
