Rainbow Six: the latest operator was born thanks to Assassin's Creed

Author and references

The new season of Rainbow Six Siege is about to start this week, titled Demon Veil for the occasion, and introduces a new operator in one of the best multiplayer games on PC. Azami is a Japanese bodyguard whose gadget, Kiba Barrier, behaves very similarly due to its "hidden blades" very similar to the ones in the Assassin's Creed series, and this is not entirely coincidental.

The way the Kiba gadget is activated is via a knife that Azami extends from his sleeve and then throws, but the animation seems partly inspired by the iconic Hidden Blade from Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed games. PC Games spoke with the creative director of Rainbow Six Siege about this new operator, here are the words of Alex Karpazis:

Initially, we didn't know the character was going to be from Japan and so a previous iteration actually had the most butterfly knife-like device, and they would just interact with it in a unique way. Later, once launched, it would open like the Kibas do right now.

The interviewer was keen to point out that the animation is very similar to that of Assassin's Creed, and Alex Karpazis also replied to this:

We actually had a couple of Assassin's Creed developers. We had one of the original developers who developed the hidden blade in Assassin's Creed. So, we already had the knowledge there. It was actually a lot of fun bringing him into the world of Siege.

What do you think of this? Do you also think that it is fun to find certain references in the various games? This is very reminiscent of Death Stranding's tribute to Horizon Zero Dawn, find more details in our dedicated news by clicking here.

We just have to wait for Azami's release and put it to the test with our own hands, until then keep following us so as not to miss any news.
