The Intel (R) management engine interface driver has become a major cause of shutdown related issues on Windows laptops. To fix the complete shutdown error (the light stays on and the screen goes black), you need to downgrade the Intel (R) Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver (version 11 to version 9 or 10). The problem is that every time you uninstall the Intel (R) management engine interface from Device Manager, it is rolled back and updated to the same state.
Here is a working solution on how to downgrade the Intel (R) management engine interface driver from version 11 to version 9.
Step 1: First go to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=intel+management+engine.
Download the relevant Intel (R) Management Engine Interface Driver compatible with your laptop model. Also, you can visit the websites of different manufacturers and download the appropriate driver according to your laptop model.
Below are some popular laptop manufacturers and their related driver resource pages.
Step 2: Now install the downloaded driver. Don't worry about uninstalling the Intel (R) Management Engine Interface Driver version 11 first, as the installation will interrupt the driver installation.
Step 3: Now, press Windows key + x and writes services.msc in the Run command box.
Step 4: Now once the service manager window opens, look for the Windows update entry. Double click on it and choose kind of start like Disabled.
Step 5: Now click on Stop.
Step 6: Now download Windows 10 Show or Hide Update Tool from Microsoft. Now, run the troubleshooter and hide the updates from the file Intel Management Engine interface (MEI) Driver.
Step 7: Now restart your PC.
You have rolled back the MEI driver to the previous version. Now it's time to change the startup type to automatic in the Windows update entry in the service manager.
Step 8: Open Service Manager, double click on Windows Update and choose again kind of start like automatic.
