Formatting is the only solution left after trying all methods to repair damaged USB flash drive. Even though it erases all your data present on the drive, it saves your USB drive and gives you a new life free from viruses, trojans and other nasty stuff. Now if your USB is damaged in a way that once you right click and format, it shows a message saying.
Windows was unable to complete formatting
How to format USB drive with CMD in Windows 10
Step 1:- First of all, open the Run command box by searching for it in the Windows search box.
Step 2:- Now Write diskpart and hit enter.
3 pass: - One time Diskpart It's open. Follow the steps below by typing the commands one by one.
list disk
It will now show Disk 0 and Disk 1 on your PC. Clearly, disk 0 is your hard drive and disk 1 is the USB flash drive.
Now write the below given commands one by one.
Select disk 1
chub
create partition primary
active
Select Partition 1
format fs = fat32
In the above command, fat32 is chosen as the file system, if you want to choose ntfs, you can also choose it.
It will take some time. Do not close the window before it is complete.
Workaround: Windows 10 cannot complete USB format
1 - Press Tasto Windows + R Open RUN.
2 - Now write compmgmt.msc on it and press OK.
3 - Now from the menu on the left, click on Storage -> Disk Management.
4 - Right click on the removable disk on the right side.
5 - Click New single volume.
6 - The wizard for the new simple volume will appear.
7 - Just go ahead and complete the process to finally complete the formatting process.
Finally, the formatting of your drive will be completed. Now the message Windows was unable to complete formatting it will no longer appear.
