The recycle bin comes to the rescue when we have second thoughts after deleting an item. When we hit the Delete, the item goes to the Trash, where it is temporarily stored until we perform the Delete from Trash operation. The Recycle Bin can be customized to fit objects. As new items are moved to the Recycle Bin and if the Recycle Bin runs out of space, the old items in the Recycle Bin are removed to accommodate the new ones. This space exhaustion can be customized. If we don't want our Recycle Bin to run out of space fast enough, we can set the size of the Recycle Bin to a large value. Similarly, if we want our container to be up-to-date and only recently deleted items take up its space, we can set the size to a relatively smaller value.
The default Windows behavior is such that the Recycle Bin has 10 percent storage capacity for each of the Windows partitions. That is, if drive D has 500GB of storage and drive E has 200GB, the Recycle Bin is capable of accumulating up to 50GB and 20GB of deleted items for drives D and E respectively. Read on to find out how to change the default size allocations for the Recycle Bin in Windows 10.
1 STEP
- Find the Trash icon on the Windows screen and right-click on it. From the context menu that appears, choose Properties (edit).
2 STEP
- Now a new window called Trash Properties opens. If you click the D drive under the Trash Location file, then under Settings for the selected location, you can customize the maximum size as shown in the screenshot. After making the changes, click the OK button to make the changes take effect.
PHASE 3
- Likewise, you can also customize the maximum size of the Recycle Bin for other drives.
PHASE 4
- If you want the files to be deleted immediately, without moving them to the Trash, you can select the radio button as shown in the screenshot.
PHASE 5
- Additionally, you can choose whether or not to display the delete confirmation dialog every time you try to delete an item. For this, you can check / uncheck the file Show delete confirmation dialog as shown in the image.
If you don't customize the maximum size of the Recycle Bin, the chances of losing data that shouldn't be lost are very high. Therefore, always customize the size of the Recycle Bin to protect your data. Hope the article was helpful.
