War in Ukraine: Apple blocks sales in Russia

Author and references

According to a press release from the same company, Apple ha temporarily blocked the physical sale of its products in Russia, following the events that saw the nation attack Ukraine. In the same press release it is also stated that last week the company blocked all exports of its sales channel to the country, in response to the violence.

However, the company said it will continue to assess the situation, and to communicate with the governments of the affected nations.

Just last week, the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister had published one open letter to Apple, asking the company to cut Russia off of its products and services, as well as the App Store.

Currently, it appears that the actions taken by the company only concern the physical market, with the Russian Apple Store still accessible, but who sees it impossible to buy or add products such as Mac or iPhone to the cart because they are listed as unavailable and not available for purchase at the moment.

Below is the translated press release:

We are deeply concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and we stand by all the people who are suffering from the violence. We are supporting humanitarian efforts, providing aid for the refugee crisis and doing everything possible to support our teams in the region.

We have taken a series of actions in response to the invasion, suspending all sales of products in Russia. Last week we stopped all exports in our sales channel in the country. Apple Pay and other services have been limited. RT News and Sputnik News are no longer available for download from the App Store outside of Russia. In addition, we have disabled both traffic and accident data from Apple Maps in Ukraine, as a safety and precautionary measure for the citizens of the country.

We will continue to assess the situation and will be in communication with the relevant governments on the actions we are taking. We join all those around the world who are asking for peace.

Meanwhile, more and more actions by every sector are taking place to support the population and the victims of the war.
