
You are trying to boot your PC and instead it shows the blue screen of death (BSoD) with ACPI_BIOS_ERROR. While you may encounter many types of blue screen of death errors, this is another very common BSoD error you may encounter. This is a BIOS error and today we will explain what ACPI_BIOS_ERROR is and how to fix it, so read on.
What is ACPI_BIOS_ERROR?
ACPI or Advanced Settings and Power Interface is responsible for managing power consumption on computers and mobile phones, including determining when the system will start or shut down, will switch the system to low power mode when the battery is low, and Moreover.
Some of the common reasons you will encounter ACPI_BIOS_ERROR on your Windows 10 PC include, if the device drivers are out of date or damaged, if the system drivers are incompatible after a fresh hardware installation, etc.
The good news is that this problem can be solved. Here we have some solutions that can help you fix ACPI_BIOS_ERROR. Let's see how.
Method 1: updating the BIOS driver
To perform any method, you need to boot Windows 10 system in safe mode using automatic repair mode. To know how to start Windows 10 in safe mode using Auto Repair mode, see this article.
Solution 1: Download the latest drivers
Step 1: Visit the hardware manufacturer's website.
Step 2: Find related models and download the latest driver versions.
Step 3: Finish installing the drivers and make sure they are installed correctly.
Confirm that you have updated all drivers, but if you cannot identify the specific driver causing the problem, please follow the steps below.
Solution 2: via Device Manager
Step 1: Right click on Home and click run.
Step 2: A Run command window type devmgmt.msc and press ok to open the file Device administrator window.
Step 3: A Device administrator window, find the outdated driver, right click on it and select Update Driver.
4 phase: Then click Automatically searches for updated driver software and wait.
Step 5: Now, wait until the search for the latest available drivers is finished. If available, it will install them automatically.
Restart your PC and you should no longer see the blue screen.
But, if it shows a message "The best device for your device is already installedThen the problem is something else.
If this method can't solve the problem, you can try updating the BIOS.
Method 2: updating the BIOS
Sometimes ACPI_BIOS_ERROR can appear due to an old BIOS on your Windows 10 PC. Here is how you can update the BIOS to the latest version:
Step 1: Before continuing, you will need to check the BIOS version.
Start Windows in Safe Mode with Command Prompt to check the BIOS version.
Step 2: Now follow the file 1 method in this article to check your PC's BIOS version.
Step 3: Next, you will need to check the motherboard model.
print Win + R keys together on the keyboard to open the file Run command.
4 phase: A Run command search box, type msinfo32 and press ok.
Step 5: It will open the file System information window where you can check the file System model (motherboard model) on the right side of the panel.
Step 6: Now visit the motherboard manufacturer's website to download and extract the latest BIOS version.
Once extracted, go directly to the BIOS (see the file readme.txt file for instructions) or create a DOS bootable USB drive to update the BIOS.
Alternatively, you can also use a Windows-based application to update the BIOS to the current version.
Now restart your PC and the error should go away.
However, if the BIOS cannot be updated to the latest version or if the latest version is not ACPI compliant, ACPI mode must be disabled.
How to disable ACPI mode
Step 1: When the computer prompts you to install the storage drivers, press the button F7 key (the key may differ for different brands of computers).
Step 2: This will automatically shut down the file ACPI and now you can proceed with installing the BIOS update.
Alternatively, you can reset the BIOS to repair the file ACPI_BIOS_ERROR on your Windows 10 PC. To learn how to reset the BIOS, please follow Solution 5 in this article.
Method 3: Uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Driver
Step 1: Right click on Home and select Device administrator from the menu.
Step 2: A Device administrator window, expand the file Battery section and right click Battery with Microsoft ACPI-compliant control method.
Please select Uninstall device in the context menu.
Step 3: Now go to Action tab at the top and select Check for hardware changes.
Windows will automatically install the latest drivers. Now, restart your PC and you should no longer see the BSoD error.
If this method doesn't fix ACPI_BIOS_ERROR, you can try setting the file ACPI mode to S1 and see if it helps.
Method 4: set ACPI mode to S1
Sometimes ACPI_BIOS_ERROR may appear when you wake your PC from hibernation and this method can help solve the problem.
Step 1: Restart the PC and press the specific key on the keyboard (depending on the PC brand) to enter the UEFI BIOS settings.

Step 2: Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate to the file BIOS power settings option or a similar name.
Step 3: To locate Advanced energy management option. It may also appear as Power Saver, APM, etc.
Use the arrow keys to select it and press Log in.
4 phase: Go to ACPI suspension type at the top, using the arrow keys, and set the field to S1.
Exit the BIOS setup and save the changes. You should now be able to log into your Windows 10 PC without seeing the error.
However, if the problem persists, you can turn off AHCI mode to see if it helps.
Method 5: Disabling AHCI Mode
Step 1: Enter the BIOS as shown above and find Storage options or a name similar to that.
Step 2: To go SATA mode o Configure SATA as and select SDI o RAID options. This will disable AHCI.
Exit the BIOS and save the changes.
You should now be able to access the Windows 10 desktop without any error messages appearing. However, if the error still appears, you can try to run the Startup Repair.
Method 6: using startup repair
Step 1: Boot your PC in Auto Repair mode> Choose an option > Solve problems > Advanced options > Initial repair.
Step 2: Now follow the onscreen instructions to complete the repair.
Once done, restart your PC and the blue screen should disappear now. However, if the blue screen error still occurs, you can change the OS image ID. Let's see how.
Method 7: change the OS image ID
Step 1: Enter the BIOS and, using the arrow keys, select Advanced.
Step 2: To go System component and then select Image ID: SO. Change the field to windows.
Exit the BIOS, save the changes and restart your PC. The error should disappear now. If the error persists, you can try to install Windows in UEFI mode as shown below.
Alternatively, you can check if removing the overclocking settings or resetting the BIOS defaults helps to correct the error. To reset the BIOS to default settings, simply enter the BIOS and select Reset to default values.
You can also try removing the battery from the motherboard to reset the BIOS, but first make sure you shut down your PC and remove the plug. Then, reinsert the battery after waiting some time and the problem should be solved.
The last option would be to perform a system restore on the Windows 10 PC. This will restore the system to an earlier state when it was running.
