Many new Windows 10 users are experiencing a strange problem. Updates fail every time and also put the system in an infinite loop, forcing the system to freeze and restart every time. 3 pass - Now, in the ProfileList look for keys that have this combination s-1-15-21-some_long_numbered_key_here
For example, the item indicated by an arrow in the screenshot above is in this type of format.
Note: Now in the screenshot above I only have such a long key entry in the profile list. This is because I only have one user account on my system. For users who have 3 user accounts, there will be 3 such entries.
However, users experiencing this update error will have more entries than user accounts.
How to check entries for user accounts that don't exist and remove them.
In the right pane, double-click the file ProfileImagePath and verify the value data. It will say something like C: Users the_user_account_name_here
If it does not match the user account name on the system, remove the entry by right clicking and deleting in the left menu pane in the registry editor.
