Thus begins the trailer for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. One of the most popular expansions ever of theBlizzard Entertainment's MMORPG which has fascinated gamers from all over the world, and of all ages. The open-world multiplayer World of Warcraft develops its narrative structure in continuity with the events present in the strategy game Warcraft III, expanding it into a work that has become a pillar of its genre.
Who saw the movie Warcraft the Beginning, which we have reviewed, he may already know part of the story. The orcs, a warlike and honorable civilization born on the planet Draenor, have crossed a portal to a new world: Azeroth. This world, however, was already civilized, and populated by many different races. The orcs have met and clashed with humans, and the two races have sought allies to reinforce their faction in the battle for dominance of the territory.
Already from the first game published, World of Warcraft: Classic, the series had a unparalleled success. The players could choose one of the 8 breeds available, belonging to the two factions: Alliance and Horde. The first faction was made up of the versatile Humans, the agile Night Elves, the rugged Dwarves, and the intelligent Gnomes. The Horde, on the other hand, could count on the brute strength of the orcs, the imposing size of the Tauren, the fierce Trolls and the merciless Undead.
However, in addition to orcs and humans, there have been other very powerful forces at play and influenced the course of events. The Burning Legion of demons wants to wipe out every form of life present on the continent of Azeroth, and is willing to exploit any being and plan any deception in order to succeed. During the second expansion World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade the heroes of Azeroth were able to cross the portal, and bring the battlefield to the lands of the legion. The Draenei and the Blood Elves have been entered as playable races, for the Alliance and the Horde respectively.
But demons aren't the only enemy to the survival of the races of Azeroth. A new enemy came forward: Il Lich King. Arthas Menethil, the human prince of the city of Lordaeron, he has lost his soul to defend the world from the Plague of Undeath. Become a death knight, he led legions of the undead to attack the very lands he wanted to defend. Now, sits on the Frozen Throne in Northrend and its very existence is a threat to the whole of Azeroth. The Horde and the Alliance therefore decided to join forces to destroy this fearsome enemy and attack him in his fortress: Icecrown Citadel.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King continues on the heels of the previous two releases, further developing a winning gameplay, worldbuilding and storytelling framework. One of the elements that is highly appreciated by users is the very extensive open world map, that tells the story of the events of the different continents. Ecosystems vary greatly from region to region, ranging from desert canyons, thriving trading ports, dense dark forests to explorable mountain ranges.
Il PvP becomes part of the gaming experience very soon, as in the disputed lands between the Horde and the Alliance it is possible to find characters of the opposite faction and start deadly clashes: use the assassin's camouflage skills to ambush an unsuspecting enemy, or keep them at a distance with spells or abilities that prevent them from moving, or charge them head down while resisting their blows and deflecting their attacks with your shield.
If you don't want to wait to meet an opponent in your path, you can choose to challenge a group of enemies on pre-established arenas called Battleground. At any time, starting at level 10, you will be able to queue up for these types of events, and you will be teleported directly to the battlefield of your choice as soon as you reach the necessary number of participants from both sides. As you level up, you'll unlock more and more challenges: Capture the Flag, Control Objectives, and more.
And that's not all: after reaching level 80 you will be able to participate in the assaults on the castle, taking control of catapults to break through the mighty enemy walls, or challenge opponents in the Arena, in a team of 2, 3 or 5 people.
World of Warcraft is also known for its experience PvE: accept and resolve missions in the various regions for discover the story of the territories and your races, confronted dungeon together with your friends to defeat powerful enemies, or join in groups of 25 people to tackle one of the most challenging PvE challenges: i Raid.
During the'scouting of the various maps, you will find different resources of various types immersed in nature, such as minerals, herbs, fish that you can collect and transform by learning a profession: engineering, forging, alchemy, tanning, enchanting, tailoring, goldsmithing or runic engraving.
The expansion adds several new elements to your experience, if you have played the previous expansion:
- The maximum level went from 70 to80;
- A new class has been added: the Death Knight, which starts at level 55 (available when you have at least one other character at level 55 or higher). This class has an introductory story that you will explore through the completion of some unique missions, during which you will free yourself from the control of the Lich King and gain your freedom;
- A new continent has been added, Northrend, consisting of 11 zones;
- They have been added new raids, including Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel;
- The possibility to unlock the Dual Talent, to be able to alternate between two of the specializations of your class;
- The target game (achievements);
- Profession has been added Runic engraving.
